1. GETTING STARTED
What is THE ZONE?
THE ZONE YYC is an indoor Airsoft and Reball arena located in Calgary, Alberta.
We offer year-round play, full rental bookings, private group sessions, team practices, and scheduled games for both new and experienced players.
Our configurable indoor arena supports multiple game styles, including tactical close-quarters games and fast-paced Speedball-style play.
Whether you're here to learn, compete, train, or just have fun, there's a place for you at THE ZONE!
What is Airsoft?
Airsoft is a team-based sport played using equipment that fires small plastic BBs.
At THE ZONE, our indoor Airsoft games emphasize teamwork, communication, movement, and quick decision-making.
Our tactical and SpeedSOFT formats offer different styles of play, from close-quarters scenarios to fast-paced competitive games.
Airsoft is a great option for players looking for an exciting, tactical experience without traditional paintball equipment.
What is Reball?
Reball is a form of paintball that uses reusable, paint-free rounds instead of traditional paintballs.
You get the speed, excitement, and competitive feel of paintball without the paint splatter!
Reball is ideal for competitive players looking to maintain their skills, teams preparing for tournaments, and newcomers interested in trying paintball-style gameplay.
At THE ZONE, Reball sessions use our inflatable Speedball field and reusable ammunition.
All the action of paintball — without the mess!
Do I need experience to play?
Absolutely not!
First-time players are welcome at THE ZONE. You don't need previous Airsoft or paintball experience to get started.
We recommend letting us know you're new when booking so we can help you select an appropriate session and explain what to expect.
Our staff can introduce you to the equipment, basic gameplay, and important safety requirements before you begin.
Are players under 18 allowed?
Yes! Players under 18 are welcome at THE ZONE.
A parent or legal guardian must complete and sign the required waiver before a minor can participate.
We recommend having the parent or guardian present at check-in to assist with the waiver process.
Please let us know the player's age when booking so we can confirm that the selected event or session is appropriate. Age restrictions may vary depending on the activity.
Does getting hit hurt?
Getting hit by an Airsoft BB or Reball can sting, similar to being snapped by an elastic band.
Some hits may leave a temporary mark or bruise, depending on the distance, impact location, and clothing worn.
Reballs are generally lighter than traditional paintballs, but the sensation of being hit can vary.
We recommend long sleeves, long pants, and properly fitted protective equipment for a more comfortable experience.
If you're concerned about getting hit, talk to our staff before booking. We can help you understand the different formats.

Do I need my own equipment?
No! You don't need to own any equipment to enjoy THE ZONE.

3. SAFETY RULES & EQUIPMENT
Are full paintball masks required?
YES — FULL PAINTBALL MASKS ARE MANDATORY AT THE ZONE. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Due to insurance requirements, every player must wear a full-face paintball mask at all times while in the playing area.
This requirement applies to everyone, including Airsoft players.
The following are NOT permitted:
Goggles alone.
Goggles combined with a separate mesh face mask.
Protective eyewear that does not meet THE ZONE's full-face mask requirements.

Your full-face paintball mask must remain properly worn whenever you are on the field, including between games, during stoppages, or while waiting for the next round to begin.

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely.
We recommend:
Long sleeves and long pants.
Clean, supportive, closed-toe footwear.
Comfortable athletic clothing suitable for active movement.
Additional protective clothing if desired.

Players are welcome to use their own Airsoft equipment, provided it meets THE ZONE's equipment and safety requirements.
All equipment must comply with our maximum energy limit and any additional restrictions associated with the booked session.
Certain events may restrict equipment types. For example, some sessions may feature pistols only or other specialized formats.
Check the event description before attending.
What is the Airsoft energy limit?
All Airsoft equipment used at THE ZONE must fire at or below 1.14 joules.
This limit applies regardless of BB weight.
Heavier BBs must travel at lower velocities to remain within the same energy limit.
Maximum FPS equivalents at 1.14 joules:

FPS values are rounded down to the nearest whole number.
The maximum permitted energy remains 1.14 joules, calculated using the BB weight being fired.
All equipment is subject to staff inspection and chronograph testing.
Can I use propane in my Airsoft equipment?
NO. PROPANE IS NOT PERMITTED AT THE ZONE.
Following our fire inspection, propane is no longer permitted for use at our facility.
This change is required for THE ZONE to operate in compliance with facility safety requirements.
Commercially packaged Airsoft green gas remains permitted, provided it meets facility safety requirements.
If you're unsure whether your gas product is acceptable, please contact us before attending.
Thank you for helping us maintain a safe playing environment for everyone.
Can I bring my own BBs?
Players who wish to bring their own BBs should confirm the ammunition requirements for their scheduled session before attending.

All equipment must meet THE ZONE's safety standards and may be inspected or chronographed by staff.
Do I need to bring Reballs or paintball pods?
No!
THE ZONE provides reusable Reballs for applicable Reball sessions, with unlimited Reball use included in those sessions.
Players must use THE ZONE's supplied Reballs and approved pods.
Personal paintball pods are not permitted on the field.
This helps us maintain a clean, consistent playing environment.
Where can I shoot or test my equipment?
Airsoft and Reball equipment may only be discharged on the playing field or in the designated chronograph area, when authorized by staff.
Shooting is not permitted in staging areas, common spaces, or other non-designated areas.
Paintball markers must have barrel bags securely installed when outside the playing area.
Airsoft equipment must also be handled safely in staging areas in accordance with staff instructions.

Staff may request additional testing whenever necessary to maintain a safe playing environment.
What happens if someone breaks a safety rule?
Player safety is our priority.
All players must follow THE ZONE's posted safety rules and staff instructions.
Unsafe behaviour or failure to follow safety requirements may result in removal from the playing area or termination of play privileges.
Players are expected to treat other participants, staff, and facility equipment with respect.
